About Golden State Fencing Academy
Golden State Fencing Academy was founded with a single goal: to build one of the premier competitive fencing programs in the United States, right here in San Francisco.
Our head coaches, Nadiya and Oleksiy Fortunatov, bring a level of experience that is rare anywhere in the world. Nadiya is an Olympic athlete (Athens 2004), World Cup Gold Medalist, and ranked among the top four women's fencers in the world at her peak. Oleksiy is a Ukrainian National Champion and multi-level member of the Ukrainian National Team. Together, they've built a program where world-class technique meets genuine investment in each athlete's development.
Our Philosophy
At Golden State Fencing Academy, we believe fencing is more than a sport — it's a pathway to growth, discipline, and opportunity. Our mission is to develop young fencers from their very first lesson into confident athletes who can succeed on the national and international stage.
We emphasize competitive training, strong fundamentals, and respect for the sport. Many of our students go on to top universities and become leaders both on and off the strip. Whether your child is new to fencing or aiming for the highest levels of competition, GSFA provides the coaching, community, and support to help them thrive.

Our Facility
We train out of our dedicated fencing facility in San Francisco's Design District, equipped for both group classes and private instruction.
